VNS Health LGBTQ+ program manager Arthur Fitting and VNS Health clinical director of the Gender Affirmation Program Shannon Whittington were featured in Crain’s New York Business publication for “Notable LGBTQ+ Leaders.” The list is comprised of 95 industry changers from a wide variety of industries all focused on the inclusion, diversity, and equality of individuals. Their activism is shown through their generosity in philanthropy, mentorship of others, and participation in the community.
Arthur has dedicated decades of his work to the expansion and accessibility of health care to LGBTQ+ individuals. Crain’s states, “Fitting has spent time volunteering with several LGBTQ organizations, including: the Gay-Lesbian Medical Association, the LGBT Health Equity Coalition, the American Nurses Association, and the New York City LGBT Community Center.”
Shannon oversees the VNS Health Gender Affirmation Program and under her guidance, the program has consistently exceeded expectations for transgender and nonbinary individuals. Crain’s notes that Shannon “continues to set the gold standard of care for transgender patients after gender affirming surgery” and as a result has received numerous awards, including the Innovation Award from the Home Care Association of New York State and the Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
