President and CEO Dan Savitt was named in PoliticsNY and amNY Metro’s 2024 NYC “Power Players in Health Care” list. The list recognizes top leaders across New York who’ve dedicated themselves to improving the well-being of others and furthering health care innovation.
Dan was named in the list for his leadership in propelling VNS Health’s organizational growth, expanding service areas, and enhancing quality of care for our communities and neighbors. He is also acknowledged for his commitment to providing high-quality, cost-effective, and easily accessible home care to all New Yorkers.
During a Q&A with PoliticsNY, Dan emphasizes how working with government officials and policymakers on issues like Medicaid and Medicare integration can help vulnerable New Yorkers receive much-needed care. “We need to innovate and effectively integrate Medicaid and Medicare services, in order to help vulnerable New Yorkers stay in their homes while addressing long-term care Medicaid spending.”
He also spoke about the lessons he has learned throughout his career and gave advice to those interested in joining the health care field. The most important lesson he learned was to see challenges as opportunities for improvement. “To realize those opportunities, we must understand why a challenge exists, determine its ’root causes‘ and work together on solutions.” Health care careers can be tough, but also very rewarding. Having a passion for helping others get the care they need is key to succeeding in health care.
Home care can also be extremely rewarding; I often hear our team members say there’s nothing they’d rather do.
— Dan Savitt, President and CEO
