Care & Services for Veterans
Those who have served our country have given so much to protect our freedom and safety. When the time comes that they need support, they deserve access to all the services and benefits available to them. That’s why at VNS Health, we make it easier for veterans to find the help and care they need.
VNS Health provides services to former military members and their families in all five boroughs and in Nassau, Suffolk, and Westchester counties. Our veterans care services are often covered by Medicare, Medicaid, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and most private insurance companies.

How VNS Health Supports Veterans
Veterans benefits can be hard to figure out and understand. At VNS Health, we make finding the care you need easier. We know the ins and outs of the programs and services available to veterans. We’ll help you find the right support to meet your needs.
VNS Health offers a wide range of services to meet the specific needs of veterans. These include:
- Home care and personal care
- Hospice care
- Community outreach
- Behavioral health programs
- Medicare and Medicaid health plans for those who qualify
Our care is available no matter your health needs, military branch, combat status, era of service, or Veterans Administration enrollment status.
We will also connect you and your loved ones with one of our veterans liaisons, who are often veterans themselves. They understand your needs and can connect you with the right services to support your care.
Home Care & Personal Care
When you let your home care nurse or therapist know that you’re a veteran, they’ll connect you with one of our veterans liaisons. They can help you:
- Figure out the benefits you need
- Apply for and get the benefits and services you’re eligible for
- Connect with other veterans
- Manage short-term and long-term or chronic health care needs
Hospice Care
Our veterans liasions understand that veterans often have unique concerns as they approach end of life. They listen to the veterans’ stories and can guide them through sometimes upsetting memories. Hospice also supports veterans’ caregivers and families, and focuses on improving comfort and quality of life.
Community Outreach
Our Veterans Outreach program provides support and advocacy for former service members and helps them navigate the health care system. We also connect veterans with “service-connected benefits,” which support veterans’ unique needs for conditions that are due to their military service.
Behavioral Health
VNS Health provides behavioral health services to veterans and their families throughout New York City. We offer a wide range of programs, including crisis intervention, long-term treatment, and care management to address mental health and substance use conditions in those who served.
